Viola tricolor

Pansies belong to the violet family. In the French language, La Pensée has a double meaning: on the one hand it means thought or thinking; and on the other hand, botanically, it means pansy. Therefore, French-speaking freethinkers have made this flower their symbol. According to some sources, the pansy has been a symbol for humanist thought even since the Middle Ages.
